An exploration into whether strengths based coaching has a role to play in supporting Italian start-up entrepreneurs

Theme: Context
Area: Coaching
Type: My research (completed)

Session on Thursday, Jul 4th, 15:25
» Where on timetable

The session aims to provide an overview of how strengths-based coaching interventions can be used to enhance start-up entrepreneur flourishing. The research demonstrates that experiential and visual tools, like strengths cards, meet young generations’ attitude for change, their love for continuous improvements through a playful way of learning that get them fully engaged. The outcomes of the research demonstrated that the playfulness and the visual traits of the Positive Psychology experiential interventions enhanced individual self-awareness and self-esteem. On the team side, recognition of each other’s strengths created more energy and enthusiasm in the team together with more commitment to the business goals. The intervention has also facilitated better communication, clearer understanding of each team member’s roles, responsibilities and expectations bringing individual differences and diversity as an enabling business factor. These outcomes led the activation of a coaching module into the Business Incubators’s programme.

Annalisa Fabbri is a business coach that back in 2014 started mentoring some of her colleagues when the company, General Electric (GE), started an internal restructuring process. After this experience she decided to start a MSc in Coaching in Behavioural Change at the Henley Business School in London that gave her the chance to practice both business and team coaching in GE Capital, a multi-national environment with lot of remote teams that required support for enhancing their communication and performance. Annalisa loves working with young and brilliant people so she decided to focus her MSc dissertation analysing how business incubators can add coaching and mentoring activities in their programme to support start-up entrepreneurs.

Before falling in love with coaching, Annalisa devoted 13 years in first leading the Internal Audit function and then the Compliance function in the financial sector of GE, gaining an extensive knowledge in dealing with governance and regulatory requirements belonging to a regulated business. Annalisa has also a strong auditing, accounting, and advisory background thanks to six years’ experience in KPMG. She has two daughters, Martina and Alice, and she likes spending her free time reading books and doing sports with them.
